Disney is getting ready to go back under the sea with “The Little Mermaid.” The studio brings a fresh take on the beloved 1989 animation classic, adding the fish-out-of-water tale to its growing list of live-action remakes. The main cast of the cinema is determined, which is Halle Bailey’s Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King’s Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula, Javier Bardem’s King Triton and more.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Little Mermaid remake.

When will the movie be out?
On May 26, 2023, Disney’s The Little Mermaid will be a segment of our world.

McCarthy had previously confirmed that the movie was shot before the COVID-19 pandemic. “I hope everything is safe…we get back to shooting in London in January, it’s very exciting,” he told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in December 2020.

Who is on the team of players?
In July 2019, Disney announced the recruitment of Bailey’s Ariel, one half of the musical duo Chloe x Halle and a Grown-ish star. “After extensive research, Halle’s little combination of soul, heart, youth, innocence and essence, as well as her excellent musical sound, revealed that she had all the inherent qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” said film director Rob. Halle announced the news on Twitter and wrote, “Dream come true…”.

“I feel like I’m dreaming and I’m just grateful, I don’t mind setbacks,” Bailey said after a racist argument following the casting announcement. “I feel like this role is something bigger, bigger than me and it’s going to be very nice. I’m so excited to be a module of that.”

Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina will play two of Ariel’s best friends. Tremblay, who has appeared in Before I Wake and The Book of Henry, will voice Flounder; will voice rapper and Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina Scuttle.

With the announcement that Hauer-King would be cast as Ariel’s lover, Prince Eric, the main roles of the cinema were completed. Earlier this year, The Wrap reported that Harry Styles had turned down the role and that Deadline, Cameron Cuffe and Hauer-King were auditioning.

In July, it was reported that Oscar winner Bardem was cast as Ariel’s father, King Triton. McCarthy will play the Sea Witch Ursula, the main antagonist in the cinema. In October 2019, it was reported that the voice singing the “Under the Sea” music would be for Daveed Diggs of Hamilton. The actor, who also starred in Wonder and Blindspotting, will play Ariel’s crab friend, Sebastian.

Will there be new original music?
In addition to listening to the iconic music of composer Alan Menken and the late poet Howard Ashman, Lin-Manuel Miranda from Hamilton will work with Menken on new music. This will be Miranda’s second Disney project following her Oscar-nominated work on Moana in 2016.

Do you have a trailer for The Little Mermaid live-action movie?
In September 2022, a teaser was released featuring Bailey’s perfect long tail and even more amazing musical styles. The trailer showcases a number of iconic scenes from the animated version of the movie, including Ariel’s discovery of a sunken ship, the interior of the underwater cave of perfection, and a hint of the fiery explosion that will connect her to Prince Eric.
